In fact, that bothers me - because I grew up in a time and place when I probably should have been.
I have, over the years, watched video footage of protesters on the news, admiring their fierce passion (if I happened to be in agreement, that is!) but it was all at a bit of a distance.
Till now.
For some reason, the plight of the Tibetans has gripped me and will not let go.
They are risking their lives in a desperate attempt to alert the West to their situation during this time when all eyes are on China in the run-up to the Beijing Olympics.
Its now or never for them
And they are being beaten, imprisoned and killed for their trouble
The brutal occupation by China (click for more info) is horrifying.
And so is the indifference and double standards of most of the world leaders.
Is it just because there is no oil or other wealth in Tibet?
Is it because China is the source of huge trading wealth?
Is it because China is big and powerful?
Maybe all of the above.
Cetainly the world powers seem to pick their battles based on issues other than moral.
What can ordinary people like us do?
Well. . . .
1. Tell people - so many just don't know.
2. Boycott Chinese products - and let the shops know you are doing that
3. Boycott the products of the advertisers and sponsers of the Olympics
4. Join the move to boycott watching the Olympics on TV - thus putting pressure on the advertisers, who will hopefully pressure their governments.
5. Write protest letters to the papers or to government officials concerned.
6. PRAY
We have lived to see the impossible happen in our time: the Berlin Wall came down; the Iron Curtain; Bamboo Curtain; apartheid; Suddam Hussein. . . .
If people all over the world throw their weight behind this, this mountain, too, can be moved.
I doubt I will ever post another "political" blog - this call though, is from my heart - hopefully to yours.

thanks for your comments - you have given me a lot to think about!
Some how my page plans ID showed up - the above comment was by Lesli.
I am with you on this one. Unfortunately we have to choose our battles, we need to do the same to Japan, as we speak they are busy slaughtering hundreds of thousands of dolphins to put onto supermarket shelves in the most horrific ways eg. left to die on the backs of trucks!!!! So boycott Honda, Toyota, Canon, Nikon etc etc. It is all so difficult.
Phew, thanks for making me even MORE aware and reminding me or what's out there.
