A Day of Rest?

Its Sunday, its windy, I have a slight cold and the house to myself. DH is playing in the WP Vets Squash Champs I have handed over the NW phone kit at last. (see previous post) But not without drama this morning I have often wondered how I would cope if a real emergency arose while I was responsible for the phone. Today I had to find out. I don't want to depress anyone Or make you think we live in the Wild West The norm is quieter here. But at 8.30, a shocked voice on the phone told me that they had been hearing terrible screams for help from the direction of the nearby station. That's a scary thing to hear - for her and for me I put an emergency radio call out and the whole NW shebang sprang into action. As it turned out, a young girl had been mugged on the station and robbed of her bag - terrible for her but at least she wasn't harmed physically. After much radioing, much action, huge community involvement and police co-operation, the man was caught in the neighbouring town (the much loved Kalk Bay) with the the girls cell phone and wallet in his possession. So- he is in jail right now. And I am breathless with admiration for "our guys" - just ordinary SA men who will not stand back and be intimidated by criminals. It got ugly though - some of the local KB scoundrels (known criminals) surrounded our NW guys and threatened them and their families, one even pulling a knife. Emergency calls for police and other back up resulted in the immediate situation being defused. But not pretty at all. Aren't you glad I only hold the NW phone every 5 weeks!? PS: I'm considering starting another kind of NW: a Neighbourhood "Watch and Pray" Group, specifically to pray for the safety of these same guys who put themselves at risk daily for our sakes.

Omiword. What drama over the last 24hours hey? And yes, those NW people and our cops are AWESOME, we are so fortunate to have people like that in our valley. The perps will soon realise they had better go elsewhere.

Yup Mel - lots of drama.
Some of the NW guys RAN to Kalk Bay to catch the baddie and help their buddies!
I'm thinking the neighbours should pay for gym memebership for them :-)

The hope is that the crims will finally realise that they will get caught if they try anything here.
