Almost Beyond Words

Very rarely do these moments come -
Moments when I discover another human has experienced something I have - not just an ordinary something but a "too deep to express" something -
I had one of those rare moments recently when I read these words of CS Lewis:

"We do not want merely to see beauty, though, God knows, even that is bounty enough.
We want something else which can hardly be put into words - to be united with the beauty we see, to pass into it, to receive it into ourselves, to bathe in it, to become part of it." *

This, this, this, is what I struggled to say in the early part of this post
Oh the exquisite relief of it!
Someone else knows exactly how I feel -
And has been able to capture it in words . . .
I know he felt the ache of that yearning for which there is no remedy -
The sense of kinship is exquisite.

I wonder whether this has something to do with the creative urge?
Maybe many feel this way but have also not had the words . . .
Maybe we feel subliminally that if we can capture beauty in music or art, that somehow there will be a small measure of the immersion in beauty we crave?

I also wonder whether this is one of the wonderments of heaven that await us
For why would humans have an inwired ache for something that does not, and will never, exist?
No, I believe that in the Life to come, we will know what it is to "pass into the beauty" and also have it "pass into us" and so be united in it.
The joy of that is unimaginable . . .
