Floods and Politicians

In case you thought I was kidding about the rain . . .

Not!
We have all morphed into Brits here, talking endlessly about the weather and how freezing we are!
Of course, we are the lucky ones, with our warm homes and clothes.

There are vast numbers of poor people here who are going through horrible hardship because their homes are flooded. This happens every severe winter because they don't want to relocate to higher ground; they will be even further from their places of work if they do that.

Update on the Mugabe and Mbeki saga:

I watched this unbelievable man ranting on about this on TV.

Bottom line seems to be: if anyone of the African leaders does not accept him as the president of Zim, he is quite ready to fight them.

What!

Is this guy for real?!

And *hull-oo-oo* where are those leaders with guts enough to stand up with Botswana against Mugabe?

Hats off to Botswana though - I'm guessing even Mad Bob (Mugabe) would be hesitant to go to war with the homeland of "The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency"!!

Because . . . .

Half the western world would be up in arms *grin* about it.

(Don't worry if you have no idea what I'm talking about - you have to be a fan of Alexander McCall Smith to get that)

Do you know that this series about Mma Ramotswe of Botswana has become so famous all over the world that Botswana has special tours to view the location of the events of the books?

And visitors even expect to meet her?

Not realising that she is a fictional character?

Maybe she is the provision of God to protect Botswana from the menaces of Mad Bob!

I digress.

On the front page of this mornings paper:

"Mugabe's government is not legitimate, says Mbeki."

REALLY?

You noticed?

But I'm guessing that he will still back him as the legitimate president. . . .

Oh, for some glimmer of how his mind works - we are a baffled nation . . . .

Good question, Levi's slippers!

For the various American people who have dropped by here, I sympathize with you about your elections.

Your choice seems so limited - Obama or MacCain. Such a contrast - it almost feels as though there should be some middle ground person or a wider choice. . .

I dunno - one commenter from the States very humbly observed on this blog that he knew too little about our politics to comment intelligently - I am in much the same boat with your politics.

But I have read and heard ( USA politics being much in the world news) enough to know that this must be a hard one. I have even heard that some Americans are just not going to vote at all because of they don't know who to back.

Wouldn't it be great if we didn't have to have leaders? Most politicians never do what they say anyway.

What's really great in this country (SA) is that, in spite of the politicians trying to mess us up, the ordinary people are getting on better and better with one another across the colour line. Blacks and whites are becoming real friends and we are all enriched by this.

Botswana Rocks. They *don't* take any sh*t. Seriously. Also, I visited there awhile back, and let me tell you, the place is crawling with US marines. They're there training the Botswana army (or at least they were when I was there), so I say, let Moo-ga-bey pick a fight with them, he's going to be sh*t out of luck *very* quickly! (Sorry for the profanity, but we ARE talking about Zim, so it's warranted.
