Life is mysterious, fascinating, intriguing. Here my words nibble around the edges of it as the mood takes me.

The EEEEEW Factor
Remember my issues with China around the Tibet question?
(See 'Tears for Tibet' post)
Well, now there's more - on a smaller scale
but its gross:
There was this little Chinese girl with the beautiful voice who was chosen to sing at the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics.
Then the powers-that-be changed their minds about having her upfront "because she has buck teeth."
So - no problemo -
they produced a Chinese junior Barbie to lipsync to the other child's singing.
Of course, the talented girl was well and truly hidden, not being pretty enough for the perfection China wants to present
As bad perhaps, in terms of deceit, the phony singer girl gave interviews to drooling journalists until someone blew the whistle on the them.
And then the politicos justified it - but that you need to read yourself to believe . . .
Is this "emotional child abuse" of both girls actually?
Speaking of deceit, another article on the same page tells us that the Chinese authorities have confessed that the giant footprints in lights was also a scam . . .
Its all there - read it on Kevin's blog
The 12th August post.
Moving right along, local papers have also reported that Chinese authorities just rocked up at one (and maybe more) of the poorer areas of Beijing just before the Olympics, and built a high wall around those homes and businesses.
Never mind that they were probably also hoping to benefit from the booming trade the Olympics would bring them
Because the perception of a beautiful, organised China must be maintained at all costs.
Eeeeew!

You can't have an ugly kid on TV.
Totally kidding!!!! (bad taste, I know) That is terrible. I heard it on the news. At least there is a big stink about it. Poor kid though.
It is sad stuff.
It is a tough struggle for China, they want to change the way the world sees them, but is trying to use a facade to do it.
Very sad.
