Did you know that our mayor - Cape Town's - Mrs Helen Zille has been chosen as the best mayor in the whole world?
She is doing an incredible job and deserves all the accolades that are coming her way and more.

I am super-stoked for her - and we are very proud of her and all she has accomplished.
As Capetonians, we can bask in her reflected glory :-)
The woman is a phenom; a dynamo.
She is not only our mayor - she is also the leader of the opposition party.
She has energy, courage and verve that defes belief;
is hands on;
answers questions straight (what politician ever does that?!);
will march in the poorest areas with the poorest of the poor, sharing their protests;
and will face fearlessly the abuse of the ruling party, never backing down on the issues she raises.
She fought for the ANC when they were downtrodden; now she fights against them when they are in the wrong.
Its my guess that they both fear her and admire her.
But politics being what they are, its also my guess that if they could possibly unseat her, they would do it in a heartbeat.
Remember the fate of Jake White, who led our Springbok Rucby side to victory in the World Cup?
I rest my case.

She's also the only politician with the BALLS to continuously challenge Mr Zooma to a debate...but he has yet to accept. I see even Mr Thabo M asked him to debate on live TV about his 'charges' against him, but of course he declined.
Helen Zille, ROCKS my little South African world right now, while little else does :) Did you know she cycles to work, and sometimes works a 14-16 hour day to get things done? PHENOM is the word.
She rocks mine too, Ness. If we did a profile on her, nobody would believe it - she's just that extraordinary.
I see in today's paper that Vavi is accusing the breakaway ANC people of being "nothing but a black DA" - if he only knew what a compliment that is - and what an incredible hope it gives us of something positive emerging from this upheaval.
Let's watch this space - you may yet regret the decision to move
*grin*
Not sure about all the SA political stuff (just don't know), but it is always good to see strong women leading and getting attention for it.
Yup, Kevin - not surprised that you don't know about SA politics.
Why should you?
We are a VERY small dot on the world map!
And in any case, you Americans have your hands, minds and hearts very full with the politic conundrum in your own country at the moment I'm sure.
We are watching with great interest the outworking of all that.
