Ag Pleez Man!

Its infuriating! The people who choose these World Cup days to strike for higher pay - and then they insult our intelligence by saying, " Its always the strike season at this time of the year. This has nothing to do with the World Cup." Say what! We are not brain dead. Of course it has: it has everything to do with the World Cup: they are holding the country to ransom. It was bad enough when the security guards at the stadiums went on strike but now - Escom employees! (For non-SA readers, this is the company that supplies us with electricity) I understand their grievances: the high bucks at Escom getting massive bonusses in spite of horrible performances is a shocker. But the unions have known about that for a long time: they have obviously stored up the strike action threat for now, when it would be the most catastrophic for the WC and thus the country. What freaks me out is this is ultimately political. These poor workers are being manipulated for the aims of the labour movement: and the lack of any consideration for the future and well being internationally of the country enrages me. My hope is that the negotiations behind the scenes will be successful and that this epic time in our history will not be ruined by a handful of cynical politicians. But still, things are very exciting here. We await one of the best sides, Brazil, who are due to play N. Korea in about one hour. Waka Waka!
