Life is mysterious, fascinating, intriguing. Here my words nibble around the edges of it as the mood takes me.

Chutzpah?
I often make the mistake of thinking that nothing else that happens in South Africa can surprise me.
I have to eat those words so often - getting used to the taste!
Here's a little example of the sort of thing I mean:
Cruising along the main road in bumper to bumper traffic the other day,
I suddenly become aware of a young backpacker running in the middle of the road - next to, then past, my car.
The next thing he accelerates furiously, then hops up on the back bumper of the truck in front of me and hangs on there as casually as if he is standing on his own front step!
He firms up his grip and settles in, calmly surveying the view from his new vantage point.
This is obviously his ride home!
How I wished I had my camera at the ready!
I am gobsmacked - dunno whether to admire his chutzpah or to freak out at the thought that he could fall off right in front of my car and be squashed -by me!
Eeeeew!
Here's a thought:
how long is it going to take for the idea to catch on and we all have youngsters hanging like bunches of grapes on the back of all moving vehicles?
